"DHEAL-COM - Digital Health Solutions in Community Medicine" is a research and technology project funded by the Italian Department of Health for the development of digital solutions of interest in proximity healthcare. The activity within the DHEAL-COM framework allows scientists to gather a notable amount of multi-modal data whose interpretation can be performed by means of machine learning algorithms. The present study illustrates a general automated pipeline made of numerous unsupervised and supervised methods that can ingest such data, provide predictive results, and facilitate model interpretations via feature identification.

GiusBERTo: A Legal Language Model for Personal Data De-identification in Italian Court of Auditors Decisions
Salierno, Giulio, Bertè, Rosamaria, Attias, Luca, Morrone, Carla, Pettazzoni, Dario, Battisti, Daniela
Recent advances in Natural Language Processing have demonstrated the effectiveness of pretrained language models like BERT for a variety of downstream tasks. We present GiusBERTo, the first BERT-based model specialized for anonymizing personal data in Italian legal documents. GiusBERTo is trained on a large dataset of Court of Auditors decisions to recognize entities to anonymize, including names, dates, locations, while retaining contextual relevance. We evaluate GiusBERTo on a held-out test set and achieve 97% token-level accuracy. GiusBERTo provides the Italian legal community with an accurate and tailored BERT model for de-identification, balancing privacy and data protection.

The friar who became the Vatican's go-to guy on AI
Before dawn, Father Paolo Benanti climbed to the bell tower of his 16th-century monastery, admired the sunrise over the ruins of the Roman forum and reflected on a world in flux. "It was a wonderful meditation on what is going on inside," he said, stepping onto the street in his friar robe. There is a lot is going on for Benanti, who, as both the Vatican's and the Italian government's go-to artificial intelligence ethicist, spends his days thinking about the Holy Ghost and the ghosts in the machines.
Japan, Italy PMs agree to join hands for success of G7 summit
Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and his Italian counterpart Giorgia Meloni agreed Monday to work together toward the success of the Group of Seven summit in June, with Italy taking over the presidency from Japan this year. During their talks in Tokyo, the two leaders discussed the achievements of the G7 summit that was held in Kishida's home constituency of Hiroshima in May 2023, including the establishment of rules to prevent the misuse of artificial intelligence technology. Kishida and Meloni also reconfirmed their cooperation in supporting Ukraine, which has been under Russian invasion for the past two years, while exchanging views on how to tackle China's growing assertiveness in the Asia-Pacific region.

The man who unleashed AI on an unsuspecting Silicon Valley
As part of that job, he's planned a round-the-world goodwill tour to talk with politicians and people using OpenAI's technology. The month-long campaign -- which will take him to Canada, Brazil, Nigeria, Europe, Singapore, Japan, Indonesia and Australia, among other stops -- comes as debate over AI's impact on the world is heating up. The Italian government temporarily banned OpenAI in March, citing concerns about privacy and data collection.

ChatGPT bans in Italy over Unlawfully Collecting User Data - CinexTech
ChatGPT bans: The Italian Data Protection Authority also says that OpenAI could be fined if it doesn't make ChatGPT follow privacy laws in Italy. OpenAI says that it has stopped giving ChatGPT to users in Italy because that country is looking into the program. But the CEO of the company, Sam Altman, tweeted, "Though we think we follow all privacy laws." We of course defer to the Italian government and have ceased offering ChatGPT in Italy (though we think we are following all privacy laws). Italy is one of my favorite countries and I look forward to visiting again soon!

Saudi Arabia, Italy, and cooperation on robotics and AI - Tactical Report
Last month (22/6/21), the Saudi Center for International Strategic Partnerships (SCISP), the Italian Embassy in Riyadh, and the Italian Trade Agency (ITA) organized a virtual roundtable to discuss matters related to robotics and artificial intelligence (AI), in collaboration with several Italian agencies. During the roundtable, Saudi Arabia claimed that it is committed to becoming a global leader in AI, in line with the Saudi Vision 2030. There is talk that the goal of the roundtable was to promote and discuss the Kingdom's ambitions concerning robotics and AI, and how Italy can support these ambitions. Tactical Report has prepared a 397-word report to shed more light on this subject. We are currently looking for freelance reporters.

How artificial intelligence could change the face of business
A major Italian government agency offers a good example of how AI can dovetail with the work people do and enable them to be more effective. Employees there were spending the majority of their time attending to routine customer queries. The agency worked with Accenture to automate the process with AI. An intelligent Virtual Agent application now handles real-time voice calls and webchat interactions, using a combination of cognitive-semantic analysis and machine-learning algorithms. After just three months, the Virtual Agent application has already successfully served more than 70,000 users.
